Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
• Transport students and passengers along designated routes, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
• Assist students with disabilities or special needs by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their comfort and safety during transit.
• Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and quick responses to traffic changes.
• Maintain discipline on the bus by implementing student behavior management strategies in accordance with school policies.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety, report any issues promptly, and perform basic mechanical knowledge checks when necessary.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual skills to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation, or willingness to obtain.
• Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws.
• First aid certification (including CPR) and emergency response training are highly desirable.
• Experience working with children or in childcare environments is a plus; ability to manage student behavior effectively.
• Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are beneficial for diverse communities.
• Demonstrated commitment to passenger safety, customer service excellence, and adherence to school policies.
