Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Health Aide to provide 1-on-1 health and instructional support to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role focuses on adapting classroom materials while prioritizing student safety, well-being, and specialized medical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specialized Health Support: Assist with seizure recognition and intervention, gastrointestinal tube (G-tube) care, and other specific medical protocols as outlined in the student's plan.
- Personal Care & Hygiene: Assist students with daily activities including eating, personal hygiene, restroom support, and diaper changing while maintaining their dignity and privacy.
- Mobility & Transfers: Support students with physical mobility, including safely assisting wheelchair users with transfers and transportation around campus.
- Instructional Accommodation: Modify classroom materials and educational activities to accommodate the student's IEP goals.
- Observation & Communication: Monitor health conditions and report observations to educators, specialists, and school nurses. Assist with sign language communication as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: At least 1 year of caregiving or healthcare experience, specifically with training/experience in G-tubes and Seizure Recognition & Intervention.
- Clearances: Ability to provide a negative TB test result and pass a background clearance check.
- Certifications: Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and complete Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (both provided/funded by BalanceSCC upon hire).
Preferred Skills & Traits:
- Experience working with students with IEPs or in educational/tutoring settings.
- Strong observational skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure during medical situations.
- Patience, empathy, and a receptive, supportive attitude toward students.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to work in a classroom/school environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, reach.
- Potential exposure to outdoors, bodily fluids/blood-borne pathogens, and volatile behaviors.
