Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, participates in activities of all maintenance needs and grounds keeping for Balance Autism facilities in the central Iowa area by performing the following duties:
- Complete all maintenance needs as assigned all Balance Autism properties, including on-campus homes, youth home, general store, garage, greenhouse and administration building, six Altoona homes, three Pleasant Hill homes, and three Ankeny homes including building concerns, grounds and upkeep.
- Assist with developing maintenance procedures and ensuring implementation
- Assist with carrying out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Checking electrical and plumbing systems of buildings to ensure functionality

We are looking for a reliable Maintenance Specialist to assist with all installation, repair and upkeep operations of the company’s facilities.
A great maintenance specialist will have a solid understanding of plumbing and electrical systems as well as carpentry and other crafts. They will be well-versed in all maintenance process and health and safety regulations.
The goal is to ensure the company facilities are well-cared for and adequate to support the company’s business operations. This individual must work well with diversity in an ever-changing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with developing maintenance procedures and ensure implementation
- Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Check electrical and all systems of buildings to ensure functionality
- Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities
- Ensure health and safety policies are complied with
- Ensure annual inspections are completed for fire extinguishers, alarms and emergency lighting for all buildings owned and maintained by Balance Autism.
- Ensure efficient repair schedules and review repair cost estimates
- Monitor inventory
- Follow all safety policies and procedures for the department
Requirements
- Solid understanding of technical aspects of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems etc.
- Working knowledge of facilities machines and equipment
- Ability to keep track of and report on activity
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent; Degree from a vocational school will be an advantage
