Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other commercial vehicles following all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure efficient delivery schedules while adhering to traffic laws and safety standards.
- Load and unload freight with manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper securing of cargo including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before and after each trip.
- Comply with all safety protocols related to hazardous materials regulations and dangerous goods transportation.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and cargo documentation in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and route adjustments as needed for optimal efficiency.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving with delivery driver experience across various cargo types.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements for manual transmission operation and specific vehicle types such as flatbeds or tankers.
- Demonstrated ability to handle freight securely, including load & unload procedures for different cargo types.
- Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods.
- Skilled in manual handling techniques and operating equipment like forklifts when necessary for cargo management.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role including manual handling tasks and extended periods of driving.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols, punctuality, and excellent communication skills.
