ABOUT BAKERTON MARKET
Bakerton Market has served the Bakerton community for nearly 100 years. We are a working general store — deli, grocery, and now BBQ — that takes care of the people who live here. Three weeks ago we launched a weekend BBQ program led by our Pit Master, and the response from the community has been strong. We are hiring support staff to keep up with the demand on our busiest days.
We are a small, tight-knit team. Weekends are when we earn it. We are looking for people who want to be here — who like staying busy, enjoy being around people, and take genuine pride in doing their job well when the pace picks up.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Deli Associate is a hands-on, customer-facing role responsible for supporting deli operations, BBQ service, and general store duties. On weekends you will work alongside our Pit Master to keep the BBQ program running smoothly — taking orders, managing the service line, and supporting prep and cleanup. You will also prepare sandwiches, pizzas, and other made-to-order deli items, and assist at the register or on the floor as needed. This role demands reliability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to keep quality high when the store is at its busiest.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
BBQ Service Support (Weekends):
- Work alongside the Pit Master to execute weekend BBQ service
- Handle customer orders at the BBQ counter with accuracy and a professional manner
- Manage the service line during peak periods — portioning, packaging, and presentation
- Assist with BBQ prep, setup, and breakdown as directed by the Pit Master
- Keep the BBQ service area clean and organized throughout the shift
Deli & Food Preparation:
- Prepare sandwiches, pizzas, and deli items to store recipes and quality standards
- Operate deli equipment including meat slicers, grills, and ovens safely and efficiently
- Maintain food freshness through proper rotation and food safety compliance
- Keep the deli counter and kitchen area clean and organized at all times
- Assist customers in selecting items and provide attentive, respectful service
Store Support:
- Assist at the POS register during peak periods
- Stock shelves and ensure products are correctly labeled and organized
- Support inventory and stocking tasks under the direction of the Shift Manager
Compliance & Standards:
- Follow all health, food safety, and sanitation regulations on every shift
- Obtain and maintain a valid food handler’s card
- Comply with all procedures for the responsible sale of alcohol and tobacco
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Consistent availability on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays — this is the foundation of the role
- Someone who genuinely enjoys busy shifts, working with people, and being in the mix
- Dependable and punctual — your team counts on you to show up and be ready
- Able to stay focused and maintain quality when the pace is demanding
- Respectful and collaborative in a small team environment
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Food service or retail experience is a plus, but not required — we train the right people
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; current students and recent graduates welcome
- Food handler’s card required or willingness to obtain upon hire
