TRANSPORTATION ROUTER/PLANNER

Qualifications

  • Minimum two year’s successful experience working in transportation service industry, preferably in pupil transportation
  • Successful experience in supervision of school transportation program desirable
  • Ability to effectively plan, schedule, coordinate, and create school bus routes to provide efficient transportation for regular and special education students
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, students and public; ability to use independent judgment and respond effectively during emergencies
  • Knowledge of computer operations and data base management; ability to learn computer software systems designed for pupil transportation
  • Ability to coordinate variety of transportation needs and assignments simultaneously in clear and concise manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-section of people on professional and personal basis
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to organize and prepare reports and statistical data
  • Possession of valid school bus driver certificate desired
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible schedules

REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

SUPERVISES: Staff as assigned

JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation services for District students and develop transportation routes and schedules within District guidelines. To provide dispatch as necessary and to provide direction to drivers as assigned.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains computerized database of school bus routing and scheduling information; generates schedule and route information to provide to staff, Education center, schools, and parents
  • Assists in computing and analyzing expenses related to pupil transportation; develops and uses routing procedures to assure efficient transportation of students
  • Coordinates school bus transportation for special needs students with special education staff and school site personnel
  • Coordinates with transportation personnel for coverage of after-school programs, activity trips, and field trips
  • Assists in organizing and conducting inservice training for drivers and monitors
  • Keeps records and prepares required reports
  • Evaluates staff as assigned
  • Assists with dispatching and scheduling as needed
  • Models personal and professional values, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability
  • Performs other related duties as required

SALARY $27.42 - $40.53 per hour

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District’s “Improvement of Professional Services Handbook”, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

Conditions Of Employment

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
