Baker Flooring & Surface is seeking a high level Director of Finance to help lead the financial operations, reporting structure, forecasting, and long term financial planning of a growing construction organization.
This role is ideal for a finance leader who understands the balance between operational accountability, construction project realities, cash flow management, and executive level decision support. The position reports directly to the CEO and will play a key role in helping shape the next phase of growth for the company.
Compensation
$200,000 to $225,000 base salary depending on experience
Location
San Mateo, CA
Work Structure
• Onsite for the first 6 months to support training, operational integration, and leadership alignment
• Hybrid flexibility available after onboarding period based on performance and business needs
About the Role
The Director of Finance will oversee the financial health and operational finance strategy of the company while helping improve visibility, forecasting, controls, and decision making across the organization. This person must be comfortable operating both strategically and tactically within a fast paced construction environment.
The ideal candidate understands construction operations, project based accounting, WIP reporting, cash management, forecasting, labor planning, and executive communication.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all financial operations, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting
• Manage cash flow planning and financial strategy initiatives
• Oversee monthly close process, financial statements, and operational reporting
• Develop KPI dashboards and executive level reporting tools
• Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team on financial planning and business decisions
• Improve operational controls, process consistency, and financial visibility across the company
• Support project financial reviews including WIP reporting, job costing, forecasting, and margin analysis
• Coordinate with external CPA partners, banking relationships, insurance providers, and legal teams
• Assist with long term scaling strategy, organizational planning, and risk management
• Help build and mentor future accounting and finance team members
Preferred Qualifications
• 10 years of finance or accounting leadership experience
• Strong background in construction, subcontracting, flooring, or project based industries preferred
• Experience managing financial operations for growing companies
• Deep understanding of job costing, construction accounting, and operational finance
• Experience with forecasting, cash flow management, and executive reporting
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent experience preferred but not required
