As one of the nation's largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs, BakerRipley Neighborhood Tax Centers (NTC) builds community stability through its free quality tax preparation and connecting families to resources. Each year, NTC prepares over 36,000 tax returns for low-income families at over 20 locations in high-need neighborhoods across the Greater Houston Area. Qualifications
Job Summary:
The Tax Center Manager is responsible for managing one of several tax sites in Houston during tax season. This includes training and assisting volunteers and staff, preparing tax returns, performing quality reviews, maintaining a smoothly operating site, resolving conflicts, monitoring equipment and supply inventory, maintaining the confidentiality of client information, meeting all IRS requirements, and maintaining a good relationship with host staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Attends the NTC tax preparation training class and Manager's Training in January
Passes the Advanced IRS Certification exam
Prepares accurate tax returns and performs quality reviews of returns prepared by other staff and volunteers
Ensures accurate preparation of tax returns through supervision and instruction of volunteers and research in NTC and IRS resource material
Maintains a professional and welcoming environment for clients and handles problems or conflicts that arise promptly and in a professional manner
Determine cut-off times for clients in accordance with site hour restrictions and volunteer capacity
Ensures that the tax center always has sufficient supplies and forms
Ensures that confidential documents are handled properly
Ensures that equipment is accounted for at all times and securely stored when not in use
Ensures that all required IRS and tax center posters are posted and visible
Maintains a good relationship with the host staff and ensures facilities are in excellent condition whenever the tax center is open
Performs other duties as directed by the Program Director
