What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patent Agent - Dallas position at Baker McKenzie?
The Commercial Practice Group of Baker McKenzie seeks a Patent Agent for their Intellectual Property Sub-practice group to join our Dallas office. We are only willing to view candidates currently located outside of Dallas if they are open to relocating to Dallas for this position (Baker will not support/pay for relocation for this position). The Patent Agent will assist patent attorneys on patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation; draft patent applications and responses to office actions; and advise lawyers on technology issues in preparation for depositions. Specifically, key responsibilities include: preparing responses to office actions and other US Patent and Trademark (USPTO) communications; studying invention disclosures and preparing patent specifications; performing prior art searches; assisting with litigation and transactional projects; and communicating with clients and foreign counsel.
The ideal candidate will be admitted to the USPTO and have 2 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience as a patent agent or technical advisor. However, we will also consider entry-level candidates with an interest in patent law and who are eligible for admission to the USPTO. Candidates must possess top academic credentials, strong analytical ability, and excellent writing and communication skills. We seek applicants that have the ability to function and collaborate smoothly in a global team environment with culturally diverse team members. A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related science is required, with a preference for candidates with a master's degree.
