Position Summary:
The Senior Buyer for the AY Pumps Division is responsible for the strategic procurement of components, raw materials, and finished goods to support manufacturing, assembly, and fulfillment operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring supply continuity, cost optimization, and supplier performance for a growing product line that includes water system pumps and related components. Based in Evansville, WI, the Senior Buyer will work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, planning, and quality teams while managing key supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute procurement strategies to support the sourcing needs of the AY Pumps Division.
Place and manage purchase orders for components, assemblies, and resale items in alignment with MRP and production demand.
Manage supplier relationships with a focus on quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement.
Identify and qualify new suppliers to support product line growth and supply risk mitigation.
Work closely with engineering and operations teams during new product introductions and changes to ensure sourcing alignment.
Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with planning and warehouse teams to maintain optimal inventory turns and avoid shortages.
Lead cost reduction initiatives through negotiation, alternate sourcing, and process improvements.
Ensure compliance with corporate purchasing policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Support vendor scorecard development and performance tracking.
Collaborate with the Janesville warehouse team on material flow, fulfillment, and logistics as it relates to purchased components and products.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with at least 2 years in a senior or strategic buying role.
Experience with pump components, castings, machined parts, motors, or similar categories is highly desirable.
Proficient with ERP/MRP systems; experience with Epicor or similar systems preferred.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Comfortable working cross-functionally and in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer or participating in meetings.
Occasionally required to walk through the manufacturing floor, which may involve exposure to industrial environments (noise, dust, etc.).
Ability to lift and carry materials or sample parts up to 25 lbs as needed.
Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and printers.
Occasional travel to supplier sites, trade shows, or company facilities may be required.
