Role Type: Of Counsel / Flexible Part-Time Relationship
Practice Area: Probate, Estate Administration, Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Related Court Matters

About the Role

Baker Law Group is seeking an experienced New Mexico Probate Of Counsel Attorney to support our growing New Mexico practice. This is a flexible of counsel opportunity for an attorney who understands New Mexico probate courts, estate administration, guardianship, conservatorship, and related court procedures.

This role is ideal for an attorney who has their own practice or other professional commitments but is open to taking on additional probate-related matters referred by a growing multi-state law firm. We are looking for someone who can help us serve New Mexico clients locally, appear in court when needed, and provide practical, reliable support on probate and estate-related matters.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Handle New Mexico probate and estate administration matters
  • Represent clients in probate court proceedings
  • Assist with guardianship and conservatorship matters
  • Prepare and review probate pleadings, petitions, motions, notices, and related filings
  • Attend hearings, status conferences, and other court appearances as needed
  • Advise clients regarding probate process, timelines, required documents, and next steps
  • Communicate clearly with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and internal Baker Law Group team members
  • Help evaluate new probate-related matters for scope, complexity, and fit
  • Support contested probate or probate-adjacent litigation where experience allows
  • Provide local New Mexico court knowledge and procedural guidance

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a New Mexico-licensed attorney with meaningful probate experience and comfort handling matters with limited hand-holding.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Active New Mexico bar admission
  • Probate, estate administration, guardianship, or conservatorship experience
  • Familiarity with New Mexico probate court procedures
  • Ability to appear in court when needed
  • Strong client communication skills
  • Practical judgment and professionalism
  • Ability to manage referred matters responsibly and independently
  • Responsiveness to clients and internal firm contacts
  • Comfort working in an of counsel relationship
  • Good standing with the New Mexico bar

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following areas is especially helpful:

  • Probate administration
  • Contested probate
  • Guardianship and conservatorship matters
  • Estate planning
  • Trust administration
  • Fiduciary disputes
  • Real estate or business issues connected to estates
  • Civil litigation involving probate-related disputes

Work Arrangement

This is an of counsel relationship, not a traditional full-time employee role. The volume of work may vary depending on firm needs and client demand.

Albuquerque is preferred, but candidates located anywhere in New Mexico will be considered. Some in-person appearances may be required depending on the court, matter type, and client need.
