The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a dedicated Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join the ENFAH Emergency and Nursing Care team at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. In this role, you will provide hands-on nursing care for emergency and hospitalized equine and farm animal patients while working closely with clinicians, house officers, students, and fellow technicians in a collaborative teaching hospital environment. This position is ideal for an LVT who thrives in a fast-paced setting, values teamwork and compassionate care, and is excited to support both exceptional patient outcomes and the education of future veterinary professionals.

The Job Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to a diverse large animal caseload, including critically ill patients.
  • Triage emergencies and initiate stabilization and treatment in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures using advanced equipment, including bloodwork, ultrasound, endoscopy, and radiography.
  • Collaborate with faculty, house officers, students, and staff while supporting the training of veterinary learners.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited institution, plus NYS licensure (or eligible to be licensed within 3 months of joining) and one year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to provide basic nursing care for equine and farm animal patients.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to being able to move and lift 50lbs.
  • Proficiency with point-of-care diagnostics, electronic medical records, and hospital information systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to remain effective and composed in fast-paced or stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and safely supporting the training of veterinary students and student employees.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and sound clinical judgment, including knowing when to seek guidance from clinicians or senior technicians.

Important Details About The Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

This position will work outside of regular hours, primarily on evenings and weekends. The specific schedule will be determined between you and your supervisor.

Board-certified specialists, dedicated residents, licensed veterinary technicians, and supervised students work together to provide the best available surgical care, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and hospitalization for our patients. We are open around the clock for emergency and critical care cases, including colic care, trauma, neonatal intensive care and high-risk pregnancies.
