What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial BIM-VDC Technician position at Baker Group?
PURPOSE
The Industrial BIM/VDC Technician will support the Lead Industrial Detailer with the development of 3D models, assist in producing spools and install drawings, as well as review completed work, to include checking for errors and verifying against contract documents. This person will create and develop relationships supportive of the Baker Group Core Focus with internal team members and external clients, as well as maintain and grow the “Client for Life” concept with new and existing clients. Performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be constructed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Create 3D BIM drawing models for mechanical piping systems for our Industrial clients.
- Produce spool sheets, shop drawings, installation drawings and material lists.
- Visit jobsites to complete Laser Scans, processing scans and work with the Project Team in the BIM model.
- Assist Team Lead with maintaining Industrial BIM Database.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Associate’s Degree/Diploma/Certificate from an accredited two-year college.
- Minimum of two years’ experience with AutoCAD software.
- Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D and Navisworks is preferred but no required.
- Experience working with Construction Drawing and Industrial P&ID Drawings is preferred but not required.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of process piping is preferred but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid driver’s license

- Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Bluebeam, and Outlook
- Ability to read construction documents, product literature, specifications and cut sheets
- Strong mechanical aptitude and good math skills
- Proven ability to partner with design teams and field personnel
- Ability to work on multiple projects and multi-task effectively
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
Typical office environment. At any given time, may be exposed to:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
- May have occasional visits to a job site which would require periods of standing, walking and/or climbing stairs
- Occasional exposure to variety of temperature, weather and construction site conditions
