Who are we? What makes us special?

We are a nut-free and kosher bakery in Washington, DC, founded by a lawyer-turned-baker. We make cakepops, bagels, challah, and other delicious treats -- all from scratch. We also have gluten-free and vegan options!

Our team is made up of a diverse group of individuals of all different ages, races, ethnicities, identities, and backgrounds. We have a small bakery across from the National Zoo in DC. We also participate in farmers' markets in the DC metro area, and we ship nationwide. We are small but mighty.

What makes us special is that we care. A lot. We care about our staff, we care about our customers, we care about our community. Yes, we sell cakepops and other baked goods. We also provide gainful employment to 20 employees. We partner with charities and nonprofits to support our community. And we bring happiness to thousands of people through our delicious nut-free and other allergy-friendly treats.

What's the job?

We are seeking a Sales Associate to work in our bakery across from the National Zoo in Woodley Park.

This is not a cashier-only position. Our Sales Associates are the people who keep the bakery running smoothly. You will interact with customers, but you'll also be doing many other things throughout your shift. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable switching gears frequently.

One minute, you might be:

• Welcoming a customer and helping them choose the perfect treat.
• Taking an order and ringing up a customer.
• Making a sandwich or preparing another food order.
• Filling an online pre-order for a customer picking up at the bakery.
• Putting together a catering order for delivery.
• Preparing a shipping order that is headed across the country.
• Helping roll bagels or assisting with other bakery tasks.
• Restocking products, supplies, and packaging.
• Cleaning counters, equipment, and other areas of the bakery.
• Taking out the trash and recycling.
• Opening or closing the store.
• Helping a coworker with whatever needs to get done.

Then, five minutes later, you may be doing something completely different.

That's the nature of working at a small, busy bakery. There will be times when you're focused on customers, and there will be times when you're working behind the scenes to get orders out the door. You may have several things happening at once, and you'll need to prioritize, stay organized, and keep a positive attitude.

Schedule & Availability

We are open seven days a week, and we're looking for employees who are available to work both weekdays and weekends.

Opening shifts for sales associates typically start around 6:30am, while closing shifts typically end around 4:30–5:00pm. Applicants should be comfortable with these start and end times and be able to reliably get to work on time.

We're looking for someone who is:

• A fast learner;
• Able to take feedback well;
• Willing to pitch in wherever needed;
• Available to work year-round (this is not a seasonal position);
• Available on weekdays and weekends;
• Able to lift at least 50 lbs.;
• Able to stand for the entire shift;
• Comfortable working in an environment that can be very fast-paced at times; and
• Comfortable with frequent task changes and multitasking.

If you're looking for a job where you stand behind a register and do the same thing all day, this probably isn't the job for you.

If you like being busy, interacting with customers, learning new things, working with your hands, and being part of a small team where everyone pitches in, you might be exactly who we're looking for.

Compensation & Benefits

Base pay for a Sales Associate is $16.50/hour plus tips, with a minimum of $18.40/hour. Tips vary, but typically range from $2–$8/hour.

Benefits for full-time employees include subsidized health insurance and a 401(k). Employees also receive free (and delicious!) food and discounts on purchases for themselves and friends.

Getting Here

We're easy to reach by Metrorail, Metrobus, Capital Bikeshare, or car. There is free parking outside the store on weekends, and additional free parking every day within a 10-minute walk of the store.
