JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, operate school buses under all types of weather conditions. Transport students and other authorized persons on regular school routes and other extracurricular activity field trips.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Drive a school bus on scheduled routes and/or trips in support of district approved activities.
- Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. Report unsafe acts or conditions in writing which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
- Service, inspect, and clean school buses and related equipment.
- Complete forms, reports, records, timesheets, and accident reports, legibly and accurately.
- Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
- Perform basic First Aid as appropriate, including CPR.
- Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by local school district policies and Transportation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess skills necessary to operate a School Bus with 10-speed, and automatic transmissions.
- Possess skills to operate District special education school buses and their respective equipment.
- Possess sufficient strength and agility to meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks, and responsibilities of a school bus driver.
- Possess sufficient strength and agility to move about in an overturned bus to provide assistance to students in evacuation of a school bus.
- Possess vision of 20/40 in best eye, with or without correction; depth perception adequate to reasonably determine distance and closing rate of other moving vehicles from a stationary or moving school bus; eye coordination to avoid diplopia; color vision adequate to distinguish the colors red, green and amber on a traffic signal.
- Possess sufficient hearing capacity to detect and distinguish traffic sounds occurring from any direction outside the bus.
- Ability to communicate clearly with students, parents, district staff members, and the community regarding all aspects of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Possess a valid Washington State Drivers License with CDL and school bus endorsement.
- Possess a valid First Aid and CPR card.
- Pass a background check and a medical physical.
