Bailey’s Produce & Nursery is a locally owned, award-winning farmers market and garden center that has proudly served the Pensacola area for over 80 years.
What started as a small family business has grown into one of the Gulf Coast’s most unique retail destinations, featuring a nearly four-acre garden center, year-round farmers market, specialty foods, gifts, books, and community events.
We’re looking for a hands-on leader who enjoys working outdoors, developing employees, serving customers, and helping lead a fast-paced retail environment where no two days are the same.
About the Role
The Nursery Assistant Manager supports the daily operations of the garden center by leading team members, maintaining high merchandising standards, supporting inventory and receiving, and creating exceptional customer experiences.
This is an active, hands-on role—not a desk position. Plant knowledge is important, but leadership, accountability, organization, customer service, and a willingness to learn are just as important.
This position works closely with the Nursery Manager to support daily operations, employee development, purchasing, merchandising, and overall department performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, train, and support nursery team members while promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Customer Experience: Assist customers with plant selection, care questions, and provide exceptional service.
- Plant Care & Maintenance: Monitor plant health, irrigation, watering, and overall nursery appearance.
- Merchandising: Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays with accurate pricing and signage.
- Inventory & Receiving: Assist with inventory control, receiving deliveries, product organization, and stock replenishment.
- Purchasing & Vendors: Support purchasing decisions and vendor communication.
- Operations & Planning: Assist with seasonal planning, promotions, and improving department performance.

This Position May Not Be a Good Fit If You
- Prefer indoor, desk-based work.
- Dislike customer interaction or teamwork.
- Are not comfortable working weekends or outdoors in Florida’s heat and humidity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Garden center, nursery, landscape, agricultural, or related retail experience.
- Basic plant knowledge or interest in horticulture.
- College degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
