Assistant Foreperson

Position Title: Assistant Foreperson
Department: Propagation
Reports To: Propagation Department Head
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Compensation: $19.00 - $21.00 / hour

Position Summary:

This role will oversee the cutting, sticking, and planting crews for the propagation department and ensuring critical information is inputted into the company database. It will require steady leadership and attention to detail to ensure efficient production practices to meet deadlines with high quality product. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize and execute daily work plans
• Independently monitor and perform ongoing duties
• Record, and report appropriate data and metrics 
• Maintain current and accurate internal inventory of all stock material used for propagation
• Design, establish, record, and input data for propagation and production trials
• Promote safe work environment and enforce safety requirements
• Ensure crews have necessary tools and information to complete tasks safely and efficiently
• Monitor and develop processes for continual improvement
• Oversee and train a crew of employees as needed
• Duties involve overseeing a crew for tasks like:
  • Taking and sticking cuttings with consistency and quality
  • Moving and organization of greenhouse plants
  • Planting liners into a range of different container sizes
• Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications:

• Basic leadership skills and willingness to train others
• Degree in horticulture/related field or equivalent experience
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and data entry)
• Understanding of basic plant care practices (watering, weeding, pest control)
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, and willingness to learn to operate additional machinery as needed.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Valid driver’s license (meeting company insurability requirements)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual English/Spanish 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand and walk for extended periods, bend, squat, and kneel. Work takes place in both indoor and outdoor settings, including production and warehouse areas. Exposure to dirt, dust, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures is expected. The ability to work under time constraints while maintaining safety and accuracy is essential.
