Overview
We are seeking a Florida-licensed Professional Engineer (PE) specializing in structural design for glass, glazing, fenestration (impact windows/doors), and roofing systems. This role supports building permit applications by providing site-specific engineering compliant with the Florida Building Code (FBC), ASCE 7 wind loads, and local requirements (including HVHZ where applicable).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform site-specific wind load calculations and design pressure (psf) determinations based on ASCE 7, building location, exposure category, risk category, and topography.
- Prepare and seal structural drawings, calculations, anchor/mullion designs, and engineering letters for impact-resistant windows, doors, glazing systems, and roofing (wind uplift/structural compliance).
- Verify product approvals (Florida Product Approval FL# or Miami-Dade NOA) and ensure installations meet or exceed site-specific loads.
- Generate permit-ready documents, including window/door schedules and wind load charts.
- Collaborate with the team on project reviews; conduct occasional field visits for measurements, inspections, or verification.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FBC updates and hurricane mitigation standards.
Requirements
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida (structural license preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in structural engineering for glazing/fenestration and/or roofing, with proven expertise in wind load calculations.
- Proficiency in ASCE 7, Florida Building Code, structural analysis software, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; friendly, collaborative, and strong team player.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote position with occasional field work.
- This is a remote role with schedule flexibility, focused on delivering high-quality, permit-approved engineering for hurricane-resistant installations throughout Florida.
