In this position, you will support a lead the Space Vehicle or Spacecraft Engineering team through development, test and delivery of highly capable space systems ensuring the company delivers a system that meets our customers’ technical performance specifications and their mission needs. It is preferred to have a Spacecraft Systems Engineer with a background in either systems engineering or any of the spacecraft subsystem areas (Thermal, ADCS, EPDS, CDH, Telecomm, FSW, Structures, Mechanisms, Simulators, Fault Management, Propulsion) to help maintain the BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) Spacecraft Product Line and support business development activities.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:
  • Provide systems engineering support to the Systems Engineering team and stewardship of technical teams in the development, verification, delivery, and operations of Missions, Segments, Elements, and Subsystems.
  • Support the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels through the lifecycle of the program.
  • Interact with multiple subject matter experts across disciplines to develop the required allocation analysis and verification artifacts.
  • Interface with and support the program’s lead system engineer, chief engineer and customer. Support expectations, preparations, and delivery for major gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR).
  • Coordinate requirements verification with I&T activities.
  • Coordinate with and assist other engineering disciplines and IPTs as assigned.
  • Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or other digital engineering software for architecture to requirements traceability and interface development.
  • Support the Risk & Opportunity Management program and ERB processes.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.


Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree and/or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Demonstrates experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation – a self-starter that will own this activity.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.



Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Related experience in either mission systems, spacecraft systems, ground systems or payloads is preferred.
  • Experience with Cameo Enterprise Architecture, SysML and DoWAF/UAF/UPDM is preferred.
  • Customer Knowledge: knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas and knowledge/experience working with critical customer base is preferred.
  • Familiarity with system design and test.
  • Experience using requirements database tools (Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler, e.g.)
  • Demonstrated ability to review effective and verifiable requirements – detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams including meeting schedule and performance goals.
  • Good presentation skills with experience presenting to senior decision making and technical audiences.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
