Responsibilities
- Safely operate box trucks and tractor-trailers, including refrigerated trailers, across local and over-the-road (OTR) routes in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment, ensuring proper cargo securing and adherence to hazardous materials regulations when applicable
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, adjusting plans as needed for traffic or road conditions
- Deliver freight accurately to designated locations, verifying delivery details and obtaining signatures or electronic confirmations
- Maintain detailed records of deliveries, mileage logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation in accordance with DOT regulations
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety standards are met, including checking for hazardous materials or dangerous goods when transporting sensitive cargo
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery status, route changes, or vehicle issues
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving with box trucks or tractor-trailers
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for dangerous goods transportation
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles confidently and handle truck loading/unloading tasks efficiently
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling procedures such as freight management, flatbed operations, tanker loads, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and freight delivery routes
- Skilled in route planning using GPS navigation tools for over-the-road (OTR) driving routes
- Experience with refrigerated trailers and automobile transportation is a plus
- Strong manual handling skills combined with safety awareness during load & unload activities
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with clean driving record; endorsements for Hazmat or tanker loads are advantageous
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with dispatchers and clients effectively
