Role Description The Underground Utilities/Civil Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Fort Myers, FL. This role is responsible for reviewing plans, specifications, and addenda to prepare detailed estimates for underground utilities and civil construction projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing labor, material, and equipment costs, and preparing complete bid proposals and change order pricing. The estimator collaborates closely with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to understand project scopes, construction methods, and site conditions. Additional tasks include soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes, maintaining cost databases, attending pre-bid meetings, and supporting budgeting and value engineering efforts to help secure and deliver profitable, well-planned projects.
Qualifications
- Civil construction and underground utilities estimating skills, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, spreadsheets, and plan-reading tools for civil/site work projects.
- Knowledge of underground utilities, site development, grading, drainage, and related construction means and methods.
- Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project managers, field personnel, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Relevant experience in civil or underground utility estimating; prior field experience in site work or utilities is beneficial.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of local codes, regulations, and industry standards related to civil and utility construction in Florida is an advantage.
