Job Summary

BABBLE ASL is a growing ASL education practice serving families, wellness venues, community centers, and clinical referral partners across NYC. We're building a small team of clinically and pedagogically trained instructors/technicians to support weekly group classes, private family sessions, and community programming.

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic ASL Instructor to inspire creativity and artistic expression among learners of all ages. In this role, you will engage the American Sign Language curricula, lead hands-on social play, song and activities, by fostering a supportive environment that encourages exploration and self expression. Whether working with mom, dad, sister, or baby your exuberance and engagement style will help our youngest students develop their skills and confidence.

This independent contractor role offers an exciting opportunity where we're specifically looking for candidates who are students within the fields of pedagogy, nursing, behavioral health, or psychology offered as a **structured quarterly placement** — a defined 3-6-12month term with clear supervision, hour-tracking, and renewal based on fit. 1099 Reporting inclusive all transportation costs and lunch! ASL Translators and experienced pedagogical professionals welcome.

Duties

  • Lead weekly group ASL/baby-sign classes at partner venues (wellness studios, community centers, gyms)
  • Maintain accurate session/hour documentation (especially relevant for fieldwork/practicum credit)
  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans tailored to diverse age groups and skill levels, incorporating curriculum development best practices.
  • Lead engaging classes in song and modeling activities following weekly program.
  • Manage classroom environments effectively by implementing classroom management strategies that promote positive behavior and safety.
  • Guide babies mom or dad, toddlers and ASD I/DD youths through creative expression while keeping structure to session.
  • Coordinate choreography, dance instruction, musical instrument lessons, or (theater) activities as applicable to the course offerings.
  • Support students’ emotional and developmental needs by applying childhood development principles and behavior management techniques.
  • Organize exhibitions, performances, or showcases to celebrate student achievements and foster community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with children and youth programs teaching visual & performing arts.
  • Strong background in teaching with a specialization in creative instruction across multiple disciplines such as dance, theater, music (instrumental performance, teaching music), or early childhood education.
  • Demonstrated ability in classroom management and lesson planning for diverse age/ability groups including preschool and early childhood education settings.
  • Familiarity with behavior management strategies and childhood development principles.
  • CPR or PALS, certification not required but recommended.
  • Musician: guitar or percussion, is a plus
  • Experience working with special education needs or inclusive classrooms is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with small children.
  • Additional skills such as musical instruments are strongly desired but not required.
  • Current enrollment in a Medical, Behavioral Health or pedagogical studies program, OR active pedagogical/clinical assistant experienced with children or I/DD ASD population.
  • Comfortable working with infants/toddlers and families in a group setting
  • Reliable availability for a recurring weekly schedule across a full quarter (3 months)
