We are looking for a dependable Part-Time Shift Leader who can help lead day-to-day operations, support the team during service, and uphold high standards across guest experience, product quality, and store procedures.

Position Summary

The Part-Time Shift Leader is responsible for helping run smooth and efficient shifts while supporting baristas, maintaining cleanliness and organization, ensuring drink consistency, and completing key opening or closing responsibilities. This role is ideal for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and comfortable taking ownership of the cafe during assigned shifts.

Shift Leaders are expected to lead by example, keep the team on task, maintain a strong customer experience, and ensure operational procedures are followed accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the shift and support daily cafe operations
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a warm, professional guest experience
  • Help direct staff workflow during service and keep the team organized during busy periods
  • Complete opening and/or closing procedures accurately
  • Maintain quality and consistency of coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty drink preparation
  • Dial in espresso and monitor drink standards throughout the shift
  • Ensure bakery, drink, and prep stations are stocked, clean, and service-ready
  • Follow food safety, labeling, dating, and shelf-life procedures
  • Check dated products, discard expired items, and ensure proper labeling and FIFO rotation
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the cafe, common space, bar, equipment, dishes, floors, patio areas, and guest-facing surfaces
  • Support routine deep cleaning and downtime task completion
  • Handle cash procedures accurately, including register closeout and deposits when assigned
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs or operational concerns to management
  • Address guest concerns professionally and escalate issues when needed
  • Help train and reinforce procedures, cleanliness expectations, and service standards with team members

Opening Responsibilities May Include

  • Turning on lights, equipment, fireplace, TV, and music
  • Dialing in espresso using recipe and extraction standards
  • Brewing drip coffee
  • Filling bakery display, ice bin, and three-compartment sinks
  • Reassembling pumps and setting up service stations
  • Checking and wiping cafe, common area, and patio surfaces
  • Unlocking doors and preparing the cafe for opening

Closing Responsibilities May Include

  • Powering down equipment and securing the building
  • Wrapping, storing, labeling, and discarding food items as needed
  • Restocking breakfast sandwiches for the next day
  • Washing, sanitizing, drying, and putting away dishes and tools
  • Breaking down pumps and storing product properly
  • Taking out garbage, cleaning airpots, emptying the ice bin, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and resetting the space
  • Closing the till and completing the daily bank deposit when assigned

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a cafe, coffee shop, restaurant, or hospitality environment required
  • Prior leadership, keyholder, or shift lead experience preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures consistently
  • Comfortable handling cash and basic operational responsibilities
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to [insert lbs] pounds
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and some holidays

Pay: $12.00 - $16.00 per hour
