A privately-owned engineering consulting firm based in Minnesota is looking for a Vice President of Operations to oversee delivery excellence, operational strategy, and financial performance across Solar, Battery Storage, Substation, and Transmission engineering markets.
As a key member of the executive team, the VP will implement scalable processes, develop future leaders, ensure top-quality project execution, and support the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Location: Minnesota (Hybrid on-site leadership role with periodic client travel)
Key Responsibilities
Operational Strategy & Leadership
• Establish and execute operational plans aligned with company growth goals
• Develop scalable organizational structures as teams expand
• Implement standardized processes and drive delivery consistency
Financial & Commercial Management
• Own utilization, revenue, and departmental profitability
• Partner with Finance/Legal on budgeting, contracts, and risk management
• Identify cost improvements to increase operational efficiency
Quality & Delivery Excellence
• Lead continuous improvement of engineering delivery workflows
• Reduce execution risk through consistent QA/QC frameworks
• Capture and deploy lessons learned across project teams
People Leadership & Culture
• Mentor and grow engineering managers into strong future leaders
• Support talent development, career pathways, and employee retention
• Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and engagement
Client & Business Partner Collaboration
• Provide executive presence in client conversations when needed
• Support pursuit decisions and resolution of escalated project issues

Qualifications & Experience
• Proven experience in senior operations leadership within engineering consulting
• Strong financial acumen including revenue, utilization & P&L management
• Power sector experience across utilities and/or renewable energy required
• Demonstrated experience leading organizational scaling change initiatives
• Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills
• Confident operational decision-maker with a hands-on leadership style
