The Opportunity

As a BIM Coordinator, you will serve as a champion of VDDS for your assigned solution of Mission Critical. You will lead the Building Information Modeling (BIM) effort on a collection of projects, ensuring their successful execution from start to finish. You will also work closely with the BIM Leader and VDDS Missions Critical Solution Lead to interpret project scope, understand BIM budgets, and establish project objectives.

The Team

The Virtual Design and Data Solutions (VDDS) team at Black & Veatch produces and manages data-rich 3D models to optimize design, improve communication and collaboration, and develop detailed contract deliverables for the bidding, construction, and operational use of our clients’ assets. The team emphasizes tools that provide accessibility to information, clarity in understanding, and efficiency in execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities will include preparing and distributing the BIM Project Execution Plan, initiating all required BIM setup activities, and overseeing and participating in the day-to-day activities of project BIM Technicians.
  • You will consume concepts, ideas, sketches, and samples from the project engineering team and render complete and accurate systems in BIM models, working drawings, and/or other associated deliverables through the lifecycle of a project contract.
  • As a BIM Coordinator, you will also be a participant in mentoring and developing the professionals on our team.
  • You will coordinate with project management and other VDDS team leaders to schedule, forecast, and delegate project tasks. Additionally, you will coordinate/deliver project milestone deliverables, perform project BIM peer review/QC activities, and coordinate with subconsultants.
  • You will also be responsible for utilizing virtual review tools and facilitating BIM presentations for internal and external clients as needed. Furthermore, you may participate in the development of best practices and continuous development initiatives both within and outside of the VDDS department.
  • Your role will report to a VDDS Solution Lead and have a matrix manager of a BIM Leader.
  • Overall, your role as a BIM Coordinator will require strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • You will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology; minimum of 8 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage BIM aspects for one or more projects.
  • Passion for design technologies and skilled in the promotion of technologies and practices to increase user effectiveness.
  • BIM acumen including the understanding of general BIM concepts, project workflow, industry awareness and the ability to make recommendations on future software development, planning, training, and implementation.
  • Highly proficient in at least one BIM authoring application (Revit, Civil 3D, Infraworks) and be recognizable as a resource for support.
  • Familiarity with Clash detection processes and preferably proficient in a clash detection tool such as Navisworks or similar.
  • Business administration skills, including understanding business strategy, financial terminology and methods to implement corrective actions.
  • Great communication skills and willingness to speak/present in front of others.
  • Must be a self -motivated individual who can work well with multi-disciplinary teams in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Organized and methodical with a resourceful capacity for critical thinking and to resolve challenges.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally between offices for project coordination and training (up to 20%).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
