Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a solid understanding of GAAP, and experience with various accounting software platforms. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting financial reporting, compliance, and analysis across multiple sectors including non-profit, governmental, and corporate accounting. The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Duties
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Perform account reconciliation including bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliation, and accounts receivable/payable management.
- Manage journal entries, accruals, and double-entry bookkeeping processes.
- Conduct financial analysis such as cash flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial report interpretation.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with SOX controls and securities law where applicable.
- Support audit processes through detailed documentation and audit trail maintenance.
- Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms for daily operations.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable; process invoices and payments efficiently.
- Contribute to financial management activities including cost analysis and financial report writing.
- Support tax-related activities leveraging tax experience and knowledge of Wills, trusts & estate law as needed.
- Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts and best practices in non-profit or governmental accounting environments.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial concepts including debits & credits.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
- Experience with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, regulatory reporting, and securities law is highly desirable.
- Expertise in financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and general ledger accounting.
- Ability to interpret complex financial reports and perform detailed financial analysis including cash flow forecasting.
- Knowledge of public accounting standards and auditing procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong communication skills for financial report writing and interpretation for diverse audiences.
- Prior experience mentoring or training team members is a plus; familiarity with private equity or corporate finance is beneficial.
