Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the School Age Program Director, a Site Lead is responsible for the care and safety of a group of children during the out of school hours. Site Leads are responsible for developing relationships with the program participants, parents and school staff in addition to communicating effectively to each party listed above. A Site Lead must be dedicated to serving our youth in following the Y’s core values and in the areas of educational assistance, character development and social growth. A Site Lead will be asked to motivate other staff members, as well as lead a group of individuals in various activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide day-to-day direction and supervision of Safe ‘n Sound before- and after-school program at a designated site location, and Kids Day Off program on scheduled days off on school holidays, breaks and teacher in-service days.

2. Plan and execute daily activities including, but not limited to, homework time, snack, character development, group games and arts/crafts.

3. Implement monthly curriculum.

4. Create and maintain all attendance sheets, authorized pick up lists, allergy lists and other needed information.

5. Supervise and lead other staff at the school site.

6. Develop and maintain relationships with parents and school staff.

7. Have direct involvement with children and act as mentor to program participants.

8. Monitor, guide and redirect children’s behaviors, as necessary.

9. Organize and maintain all equipment and supplies. Pick up supplies and snacks from the YMCA on an as needed basis.

10. Attend in person trainings and online coursework on child abuse and prevention.

11. Attend monthly lead meetings.

12. Complete monthly emergency drills with children.

13. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated reporter requirements.

14. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work Monday - Friday with a split shift that includes the following hours: 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3:15–6 p.m. Kids Day Off hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.

3. Two years of college coursework preferred. Working towards a degree in education or a related field is a plus.

4. Must have previous experience working in a group setting supervising children.

5. Must have previous experience planning and implementing age-appropriate programs for school-age children.

6. Previous experience supervising other staff a plus.

7. Must have capacity to make decisions and communicate effectively with participants, parents and school staff.

8. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

9. Applicants must have, or obtain, First Aid/CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment, and complete Mandated Reporter, Praesidium and Gateways.

Pay: $19.00 per hour
