Duties
- Operate tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks to transport freight over long-distance over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Safely load, secure, and unload various cargo types including freight, hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, refrigerated items, flatbed loads, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and freight containers.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan efficient routes and ensure timely deliveries while complying with route driving protocols.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to verify safety standards are met before departure; perform routine maintenance checks during trips.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and cargo manifests in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Handle manual handling tasks such as forklift operation when necessary for loading or unloading cargo safely.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams to coordinate delivery schedules and report any issues or delays promptly.
Experience
- Proven experience as a commercial truck driver with a focus on delivery driving across diverse routes.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailer operations, flatbed hauling, tanker trucks, and specialized equipment such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks is preferred.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (hazmat) and the proper handling of dangerous goods is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual transmission vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Experience with route planning using GPS navigation tools to optimize delivery times and fuel efficiency.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the cargo type being transported; clean driving record required.
- Understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and safety standards for truck loading/unloading procedures.
