A backhoe/excavator operator should know how to operate a backhoe in a safe and efficient way. This includes opening and closing the bucket, raising and lowering the boom, digging, lifting, and dumping dirt, concrete and asphalt. The work requires considerable skill in manipulating the equipment and constant attention to safety of operation to prevent accidents.
Essential Duties
- Safely and skillfully operate a backhoe, ranging from 2 cubic yards to 4 cubic yards.
- Safely and skillfully operates the excavator boom digging materials such as dirt, concrete and asphalt. (Special emphasis, on concrete removal to include but not limited to curb and gutters, sidewalks, concrete aprons and concrete/asphalt roadways).
- Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance and repair tasks such as making simple adjustments, replacing minor parts, and lubricating equipment.
- Trains others on the proper operation of a backhoe.
- Visually assesses digging areas to ensure that areas have been marked prior to digging.
- Ensures safe and proper digging around all above and underground utilities.
- Will be required to work with crew members when operating duties are not assigned.
- This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to perform tasks involving physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials, tools, or equipment. Manual material handling must be performed in accordance with OSHA safety standards and company policies to minimize risk of injury.
- Must have 3-5 years of experience operating a backhoe proficiently.
- This job requires the individual to have good hand-to-eye coordination and comply with all industry regulations.
- Drug Test and Background check are required.
- Ability to hear and speak clearly with professional standard grammar
- Controlled dexterity of fingers and hands (to include the use of mechanical substitutions)
- Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew can operate at normal efficiency level.
- Attitude/Cooperation: Must always maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Ability to be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required. Must have reliable transportation.
