Title: SITE FOREMAN, UNDERGROUND UTILITIES
Reports To: Superintendent
Status: Regular, Full Time, Exempt
Primary Function: Supervise and coordinate the work of crew leaders making sure jobs are completed on budget and on time in a safe and profitable manner.
Duties and Responsibilities: The following list is an outline of duties and responsibilities attached to this position. It is understood that this list is intended to be representative of the functions that may reasonably be expected of the position. It is not intended to be comprehensive.
1. Supervise work schedules, manpower, material quantities, and equipment utilization by maximizing utilization of resources, labor, equipment, material and other job costs. Oversee subcontractors’ safety, quality, and schedule.
- Oversee profitability of jobs by working within estimated budget and adhering to schedules and plans; monitoring performance and productivity. Evaluate labor, equipment, material and other job costs. Makes adjustments if necessary, to correct areas needing improvement. Read plans and understand contract requirements.
- Plan work schedules, manpower, material quantities, equipment utilization, etc. by using the following tools: a) pre-job planning, b) safety plan for large/difficult jobs, c) site survey for jobs 2 days or more, d) daily goals, e) short interval plan (actual vs plan), and f) post job review.
- Coach and mentor staff toward their personal development. Interest in self-development by attending classes and seminars annually.
- Establish and maintain positive, professional relations with customers, owner representatives, and job site inspectors. Maintain teamwork with other Joy departments and promote policies and standards set forth by them.
- Comply with Joy, OSHA, DOT regulations and ensure crew member wear personal protective equipment. Ensure lost time incident rate and general liability numbers and costs are minimized by maintaining a safe work environment.
- Contribute to and follow the Loss Prevention Plan. Ensure proper accident notification, investigation, and reporting procedures are followed. Conduct and/or contribute and participate in safety meetings and ensure daily safety talks are held with crew(s). Ensure crews are staffed with qualified “Competent Persons.”
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of required paperwork (i.e., line-up, Miss Utility tickets, performance reviews, timesheets, quantity reports, material tickets, and other field reports).
- Maintain control and appropriate follow-through of crew. Provide coaching and mentoring crew members for advancement. Provide fair and consistent in reward and discipline. Complete Performance Reviews timely and provide honest feedback in areas of excellence as well as in areas needing improvement.
- May perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
Educational and experience requirements include: Combinations of technical training and/or experience. Minimum of 3-5 years supervisory experience in similar construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures required. Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise groups essential. Must have a current valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited, lifting materials and equipment (up to 70 pounds unassisted), standing, climbing, walking, or using hands to operate/handle tools. Weight limits up to 300 lbs
