What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Yard Operator position at B. Frank Joy LLC?
Reports To: Fleet & Facilities Manager.
Status: Regular, Full Time, Non-exempt
Primary Function: Productively assist crew members in assigned tasks.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- The Yard Coordinator is the primary support for all company facility and supply and material organization. The internal customer is comprised of all office and field staff.
- Proficient in traditional inventory management competencies, including defining mins/max stocking levels, lead time, obsolescence and standardization.
- Maintains yard and building security system (automatic gate, door controllers, cameras, guard service).
- Perform routine facility maintenance activities, including inspections, audits, and preventive maintenance.
- Loads and unloads trucks with forklift, crane, backhoe, or when necessary, manually.
- Tracks all shipping and receiving and communicates status to appropriate party.
- Responsible for keeping facility safe and operational during all weather conditions, including inclement weather and snow.
- Able to recognize hazards and take corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean and manicured yard, building and front entrance.
- Must be available to be “On Call” 24/7 to address critical business needs.
- (If Laborer/Driver) In accordance with BFJ Driver Handbook, operates company vehicles in a safe and skilled manner. Pre- and post-trip inspections are performed daily. Vehicle is maintained and kept clean and organized. Maintain valid driver’s license/record.
- Practice a “safety comes first” attitude by following Joy and OSHA regulations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
Educational and experience requirements include:
- High school degree or its equivalent or a combination of education and training experience.
- One to two years of construction experience preferred.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to communicate with supervisor and coworkers.
- Must be a team player.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited, lifting materials and equipment (up to 70 pounds unassisted), standing, climbing, walking, or using hands to operate/handle tools. Weight limits up to 300 lbs.
