Leadership & Supervision
- Direct and coordinate daily Toolroom operations according to production schedules and priorities.
- Supervise machinists, providing clear direction, technical guidance, and performance feedback.
- Train and mentor less experienced machinists, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer.
- Actively participate in departmental and management meetings, communicating team progress and challenges.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Set up and operate CNC mills, EDMs, sinkers, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, and laser welders to produce parts within specified tolerances and finishes.
- Generate and provide CNC programs for Toolroom equipment utilizing CAM software (e.g., Esprit).
- Read and interpret blueprints, machine sketches, layouts, and verbal instructions to fabricate, modify, or repair tooling and fixtures.
- Apply advanced machining practices, including proper feeds, speeds, and material-specific processes, in line with the Machinist’s Handbook.
- Perform precision measurements using calipers, depth mics, indicators, and other instruments to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Utilize CAD/CAM systems to design, modify, and prepare tooling components as required.
- Inspect tooling returned to Die Maintenance, ensuring functionality and readiness before restocking.
- Repair, refurbish, or fabricate tooling and hardware as needed to maintain adequate spare inventory.
- Maintain Toolroom equipment and spare parts in optimal working condition.
- Ensure proper documentation of repairs, modifications, and inventory adjustments.
- Diagnose and resolve tooling and equipment issues quickly to minimize downtime.
- Support production teams by providing technical expertise on tooling performance and corrective actions.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance tooling efficiency, accuracy, and durability.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), proper PPE usage, and equipment safeguards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free Toolroom environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, and industry standards.
Basic Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma required.
- Above-average math skills, with applied knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
- Proficiency in manual and advanced CNC machining.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
- 10 years of machining, toolmaking, or die repair experience, or equivalent education/experience.
- Technical or trade school degree required.
- Advanced proficiency with CAD/CAM software and CNC programming.
- In-depth knowledge of machining feeds, speeds, and materials (metal and non-metal).
- Applied knowledge of industry standards for machine and hand tool use.
- Proficiency in precision measurement techniques and use of inspection devices.
- Experience with laser welding.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Ability to travel occasionally for training or tooling support.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and mentor others.
- Hands-on problem solver with a proactive, results-driven mindset.
