What are the responsibilities and job description for the Toolroom Machinist position at AZEK Company?
Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00am to 3:00pm
Pay Rate: $33.65 an hour!
Key Responsibilities
Machining & Tooling Operations
- Set up and operate CNC mills, EDMs, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, and laser welders to produce tooling components and fixtures.
- Provide and adjust basic CNC programs using CAM software (e.g., Esprit).
- Machine a wide range of metals and non-metals, applying proper feeds, speeds, and cutting techniques.
- Modify, repair, or fabricate new tooling and fixturing based on blueprints, sketches, layouts, or verbal instructions.
- Apply principles of geometry and trigonometry to ensure precision and accuracy.
- Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, depth mics, indicators, comparators, and other inspection tools to verify parts meet specifications.
Tooling Maintenance & Repair
- Inspect tooling returned from Die Maintenance, ensuring functionality before restocking.
- Repair or refurbish worn tooling, dies, and hardware to maintain adequate inventory.
- Perform preventive maintenance on Toolroom equipment and ensure machines are properly calibrated.
- Support production operations by ensuring tooling is ready, accurate, and within tolerance requirements.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including machine settings, tooling adjustments, and repair activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, offering feedback on tooling design, machining practices, and process efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Tooling Engineers and Technicians to support design changes and resolve issues.
- Actively engage in team meetings and contribute ideas for process optimization.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols when operating manual and CNC equipment.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Toolroom environment.
- Comply with company policies, OSHA standards, and industry regulations.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma required.
- Above-average math skills with applied knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
- Knowledge of manual and CNC machining practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer usage.
- Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of machining, toolmaking, or die repair experience, or equivalent education/experience.
- Technical or trade school degree preferred.
- Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and CNC programming.
- Proficiency in machining metals and non-metals in accordance with Machinist’s Handbook standards.
- Understanding of industry quality standards, measurement methods, and inspection devices.
- Familiarity with laser welding applications.
- Ability to travel occasionally for training purposes.
