The Controller will oversee all project controls and financial activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and provide strategic guidance to the executive team. This role will be responsible for managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, developing financial strategies, and analyzing financial performance. The Controller will establish internal controls and provide support in decision-making and strategic planning.
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies and procedures to ensure effective financial management.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, reports, budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance, identify trends and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the executive team, providing analysis and recommendations.
- Set quality review assignments and perform quality reviews for financial-related projects.
- Recommend changes in the project controls and finance departments and/or the overall structure and organization to achieve the objectives assigned to them.
- Serve as the financial technical advisor and provide senior-level input and evaluation of project development activities.
- Coordinate training initiatives with department managers and guide implementation and execution impacting the financial lifecycle.
- Determine departmental objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.
- Partner with respective Project teams & Project Controls personnel to ensure that relevant project-specific KPIs are in place and monitored from the outset.
- Develop accounting policies and review external literature to proactively identify upcoming changes that may impact the facility and take actions to address identified items in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the highest level of practical cross-training possible among members of the project management, project controls, purchasing, construction, equipment, IT & finance organizations.
- Perform variance analysis to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement in financial performance and be able to discuss findings with senior management.
- Lead in the development of a financial business plan.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and legal requirements.
- Monitor and maintain development staffing levels, staffing loading, and staffing assignments to meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.
- Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
- Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.
- Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.
- Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
- Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or other similar discipline from accredited program and 11 years of relevant professional experience (extra credit may be given for public accounting experience) required.
- Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple day-to-day and ongoing projects simultaneously.
- Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
