Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking an Interim Assistant Nurse Manager, Utilization Management, for a W2 Contract position based in San Diego, CA.
Schedule: Full time, Day shift, Monday through Friday, 5 8's – 9am – 5:30pm
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks with high likelihood of extending
Compensation:
This position offers a daily rate of $640 to $655 which equates to $3,200 to $3,275 per week (based on a 5-day workweek)
Per Diems: Lodging: $199 per day and Meals & Incidentals: $86 per day
Total Weekly Compensation (Daily Rate Per Diems Stipend): Between $5,370 to $5,445 per week

Summary:
Provides supportive operational and clinical leadership for nursing teams, promoting collaboration, staff development, and consistent delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Supports daily unit operations by coordinating staffing, guiding workflow, maintaining adherence to policies and regulatory standards, and assisting with problem-solving related to patient flow, team communication, and care coordination. Partners with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to implement improvements, support training and orientation, foster a positive work environment, and help ensure continuity of care within clinical setting.
Essential Functions:
Creates and supports opportunities for staff development by providing ongoing coaching, encouraging professional growth, and contributing to performance evaluations. Promotes effective teamwork by fostering open communication, supporting conflict resolution, and helping maintain a positive and collaborative work culture. Assists with onboarding, training, and supporting staff, ensuring expectations are clear and resources are available to meet unit needs. Helps communicate organizational updates, process changes, and best practices to the team.
Supports unit operations by helping translate goals into daily workflow priorities, monitoring completion of assignments, and identifying opportunities for improvement. Ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and care standards. Assists with escalation management by providing guidance, helping staff troubleshoot complex patient-care or operational issues, and reinforcing accountability. Communicates unit needs and collaborates with leadership to align staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation with patient-care requirements.
Supports administrative functions that contribute to patient care, including assisting with staff scheduling, monitoring workload distribution, organizing reports to track unit performance, and supporting ongoing quality and safety initiatives. Helps maintain readiness for regulatory surveys by participating in audits, documentation review, and process assessments. Assists leadership in monitoring budget considerations related to staffing levels, supply usage, and operational efficiency.
Supports patient-care operations by collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary partners, helping coordinate patient flow, and ensuring appropriate resource utilization. Participates in emergency-preparedness activities and ensures staff understand expectations during urgent or unexpected situations. Assists in leading or supporting unit-based projects aimed at improving clinical workflows, communication processes, and patient-care outcomes.
Supports improvement initiatives by helping identify workflow barriers, contributing to root-cause discussions, and assisting in implementing solutions to enhance safety, quality, service, and operational effectiveness. Collaborates with leadership to align unit practices with organizational standards, quality metrics, and patient-experience goals. Provides feedback to help refine processes and support sustained improvement.
Helps reinforce safe, consistent, and compliant care delivery by supporting adherence to nursing practice standards, quality and safety policies, and regulatory requirements. Participates in monitoring
performance indicators, reviewing documentation practices, and supporting staff in maintaining compliance. Works with leadership to implement processes that strengthen patient care consistency, safety, and teamwork across the unit and care continuum.
Qualifications:
BSN or BA in health care related field required. Masters preferred. Experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current California RN license required.
Certifications: BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Clinical nursing experience relevant to given department (around 3-4 years), including 2 years leadership experience.
