What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director of Growth & Community Activation position at Aya House?
Director of Growth & Community Activation
Aya House is not just a beautiful historic venue. It is a membership-based community and third space for leaders, creators, and changemakers building culture, businesses, and movements in Detroit.
We are looking for someone who can grow it. Not maintain it. Not “support marketing.” Grow it.
This role is for someone who knows how to turn energy into revenue, relationships into partnerships, and visibility into a consistent pipeline of bookings and members.
⸻
What You’ll Own
You will be responsible for:
• Driving new member acquisition for Aya House
• Filling the pipeline for event bookings, weddings, and private rentals
• Securing partnerships, sponsors, and aligned organizations
• Converting pipeline leads into paying clients through tours, follow-ups, and closing
• Building repeatable systems for consistent monthly growth
This is not a handoff role. You are expected to generate, pursue, and close opportunities.
⸻
What Success Looks Like
• Aya House is consistently booking or hosting paid, 5-figure events every month
• Membership reaches 100 dues paying members with people who actually engage and align with our mission
• Partnerships are bringing new audiences into the space
• Revenue is increasing a minimum of 20-50% month over month
If you are doing your job well, the space feels alive and in demand.
⸻
Who This Is For
You might be a fit if:
• You have personally closed 5 and 6 figure deals
• You are comfortable being accountable to numbers
• You know how to follow up, not just reach out
• You move quickly and don’t wait for perfect conditions or need sales training
• You are resourceful and can create opportunities regardless of budget size
• You understand both people and business
You likely have experience in one or more of the following:
• Sales or business development
• Event production or venue booking
• Partnerships or sponsorships
• Community-based business or creative ecosystems
⸻
Who This Is NOT For
• Someone looking for a traditional 9–5 role
• Someone who needs constant direction
• Someone who prefers planning over execution
• Someone uncomfortable with performance-based compensation
⸻
Compensation
This is a performance-driven role with high earning potential.
• Base stipend: $1,000/month (depending on experience)
• Commission:
• $25–$75 per new member
• 10–15% on event bookings
• 10–15% on partnerships and sponsorships
• Monthly performance bonuses tied to growth and engagement
• Equity participation (phantom equity or profit share)
Top performers can earn $5,000–$10,000 /month within the first 90 days.
Compensation is tied directly to results. There is no cap.
⸻
Why Aya House
Aya House sits at the intersection of community, culture, and commerce.
This is an opportunity to:
• Build the revenue engine of a growing cultural institution
• Work directly with leadership and shape strategy
• Create real economic opportunities for yourself and others
• Be part of something that matters beyond transactions
⸻
How to Apply
Send:
• Your resume
• A cover letter addressing why this role fits you, desired start date, and your approach to the first 30 days
• One example of something you grew, sold, or built
