About the Role
AXN Engineering is seeking motivated and hands-on individuals with an interest in electrical and mechanical systems to join our team as Entry-Level Commissioning Engineers.
This position is ideal for recent graduates in electrical or mechanical engineering — or candidates with equivalent technical experience — who are eager to be cross-trained in both disciplines.
You’ll receive comprehensive on-the-job training in commissioning and testing critical infrastructure systems for data centers, hospitals, and other high-reliability facilities. The role offers exposure to both electrical and mechanical commissioning, including mechanical equipment testing and surveys supporting CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in commissioning and testing of electrical systems, including: Remote Power Panels (RPP) and Power Distribution Units (PDU), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems (single and multi-module), Generators, Paralleling Switchgear, Automatic and Static Transfer Switches (ATS/STS), Transformers, Switchboards, and Circuit Breakers.
- Integrated Systems Testing and on-site meter calibration
- Support mechanical equipment commissioning, including HVAC systems, pumps, and cooling infrastructure for critical facilities.
- Perform mechanical equipment surveys for CFD studies, collecting field data to analyze airflow and thermal performance.
- Conduct infrared thermography surveys on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Develop and review Method of Procedure (MOP), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP) documents.
- Create and review pre-functional and functional testing forms (Levels 2–5).
- Perform electrical and mechanical systems surveys and assist in updating single-line and system diagrams.
- Represent AXN Engineering in project meetings and work collaboratively with clients and contractors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred, but not required if candidate has relevant technical or commissioning experience.
- Strong interest in both electrical and mechanical systems and willingness to learn and be cross-trained in both areas.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Must live within one hour of Ashburn, VA.
- Must have a reliable working vehicle for commuting to local job sites.
- Ability to travel up to 75% to client sites within the United States.
- U.S. Citizenship required (for access to certain client facilities).
