We are seeking reliable and hardworking individuals to join our directional drilling crews as General Laborers in our fiber optic construction company. As a medium-sized company specializing in conduit boring and installation, we rely on our dedicated laborers to assist in various tasks and ensure the smooth execution of our projects. The General Laborer will play a crucial role in supporting the drilling crew and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Equipment Setup and Maintenance

  • Assist in the setup and preparation of drilling equipment, including drilling rigs, support vehicles, and tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on drilling equipment and report any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned, stored, and secured at the end of each workday.

Material Handling and Inventory:

  • Assist in the loading and unloading of materials and equipment at job sites.
  • Organize and maintain an inventory of drilling supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist in the transportation and movement of materials and equipment as needed.

Site Preparation:

  • Clear vegetation, debris, and obstructions from the work area to facilitate drilling operations.
  • Dig trenches and lay out conduit pathways according to project plans and specifications.
  • Assist in the assembly and installation of drilling support structures, such as drilling mud tanks and mixing systems.

Excavation and Backfilling:

  • Operate hand tools, such as shovels and rakes, to excavate and backfill trenches.
  • Assist in the installation of conduits, cables, and related components during the drilling process.
  • Ensure proper compaction and leveling of backfilled areas.

Safety and Cleanliness:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and promote a culture of safety among the crew.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, including the removal of waste and debris.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with drilling crew members to ensure efficient and coordinated operations.
  • Follow instructions provided by supervisors and senior crew members.
  • Communicate any potential safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor promptly.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as the company needs change.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in construction or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in construction.
  • Willingness to learn and follow directions from supervisors and senior crew members.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
