Workover Rig Derrick Hand Job Description
We are seeking a qualified local job seeker within 60 miles of our Andrews, TX facility to join our workover rig crew. The Derrick Hand is responsible for performing services on workover rigs, working under the supervision of the assigned Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor or Rig Operator.

We are seeking a qualified local job seeker within 60 miles of our Andrews, TX facility to join our workover rig crew. The Derrick Hand is responsible for performing services on workover rigs, working under the supervision of the assigned Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor or Rig Operator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in rigging up and down, lining up the well service rig with the well; perform servicing on the well.
- Responsible for all elevated work associated with rigging up/down, including removing horse heads from pumping units.
- Manage rod baskets and tubing boards, transferring rods and tubing from vertical racks to elevators.
- Operate tubing elevators for standing tubing in derricks.
- Assist in picking up or laying down tubing, manually lifting it from racks onto work floors or vice versa.
- Set hydraulic jacks, handle pads/boards, and attach guy wires to anchors.
- Walk rods when laying them down.
- Report safety hazards, accidents, or maintenance issues to the Tool Pusher/Field Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid state-issued driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR); CDL Class A or B preferred.
- At least one year of Derrick hand experience; two years of workover rig floor experience required.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
- Ability to work varied rotational schedules and travel as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be performed in all weather conditions.
- Lift heavy equipment up to 75 pounds.
- Access work environments using ladders at heights of 50 feet or more.
- Long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, or similar activities may be necessary.
