Resident Monitor/Peer Support Specialist 

Root House 

Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week 

$17.00/Hour 

Schedule:    Variable; Flexibility required for emergent needs 


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:   Responsible for overseeing residents in a clinically managed low-intensity residential service setting, maintaining a therapeutic drug free environment following rules and regulations of F&CS and Ohio MHAS, and COA standards, crisis intervention, and consultation/reporting with/to supervisor(s). The position also requires the development of knowledge and skills in the areas of community support, discharge planning, substance use issues, and the field of community services to individuals with substance use disorders. The position requires the ability to respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations, including at least basic training crisis intervention. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Resident Monitor:

1. Maintain sober living environment, and promote recovery skills while presenting a caring, compassionate attitude.

2. Provide crisis intervention/de-escalation when needed consulting with supervisor/house manager.

3. Establish trusting relationship with clients while modeling awareness and behavior needed for growth and development of clients; displaying knowledge of the therapeutic importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries. 

4. Monitor participants’ use of services/treatment, and impact on independence.

5. Provide accurate shift reports on a daily basis.

6. Participates in team planning, case reviews, and program goal achievement.

7. Attend agency and training meetings as requested.

8. Fulfill other duties as assigned.

9. Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.


PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST:

1. Evaluate client needs for services in regard to appropriateness of request, urgency and recommended action, and facilitates all necessary referrals.  

2. Arrange resources for client to assist in sobriety/recovery.

3. Aide in the development of recovery strategies.

4. Use lived experience to connect with clients and work with them to help them identify a pathway to recovery.

5. Support multiple pathways to recovery.

6. Work to bridge gaps in crisis stabilization services.

7. Assist clients with attending appointments and provide support to individuals as they navigate the early stages of recovery.

8. Assist individuals access other recovery supports, such as transportation programs, pre-treatment and recovery housing, childcare, and employment opportunities.

9. Provide support and advocacy to individuals involved with the criminal justice system.

10. Assist with connecting individuals to resources in the community that will help overcome barriers to recovery.

11. Assist the clinical team in the development of the Individual Service Plans.

12. Provides community education and awareness to the community and community partner organizations.

13. Provide treatment services to clients through individual, group, and/or family methods according to current professional standards of care.

14. Enter and maintain daily schedule into computer as required.

15. At a minimum, achieve and maintain the Agency’s established productivity standards.

16. Make referrals to other services within the community and within the Agency as indicated.

17. Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, supervision, various committees as assigned including Performance Improvement, workshops, and other meetings to receive information and instructions as well as to remain current and accurate on procedures, policies, and techniques. 

18. Consult, collaborate, and communicate in a timely and accurate manner all client-related issues and concerns internally to Family and Community Services Staff and externally to other agency service providers, schools, law enforcement agencies, courts, etc. in the provision of services to clients and to the community to ensure coordination of care.

19. Complete all documentation, including consumer outcomes, in a legible and timely manner according to the policies of Family and Community Services and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and provide necessary data for statistical and billing purposes.

20. Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and make every attempt to resolve work-related difficulties with the co-worker in a timely fashion.

21. Communicate all concerns and questions regarding the program functioning and client care to the immediate supervisor.

22. Maintain current knowledge of all applicable Family and Community Services policies and procedures and function according to these standards.

23. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

24. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certified through OhioMHAS as an Ohio Peer Supporter

2. The Peer Support Specialist is required to have the following skills: clinical interview methods; individual, and group therapy methods.

3. Skills in crisis intervention and emergency services. 

4. Specialized knowledge of the substance use field. 

5. The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

6. De-escalation skills.

7. The ability to establish and maintain clinically effective relationships with clients.

8. Ability to meet agency requirements for criminal background check.

9. Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license in accordance with County policy and must maintain motor vehicle liability insurance, must maintain continuing eligibility under the existing County driver eligibility standards.

10. Ability to function as part of an organization by working with others and by adhering to established policies and procedures.


MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Valid Ohio Peer Support Certification.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all pertinent federal, state, and local laws, standards of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, and appropriate professional ethical standards. Two years experience preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
