Job Description

Primary Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer has the primary purpose of improving existing processes, creating new processes, and implementing these processes for the production teams. These processes focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. This hands-on role is critical to the success of the production teams to successfully fabricate and assemble product to specifications and standards. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineer will work with the Operations and Engineering teams in the NPI process which will include plant playout optimization, ergonomic design, and 5S strategies.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance for production process related problems: identify, analyze, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Supply Chain, Design Engineering, Quality, Service, and Vendors for compliance-to-design standards focusing on internal cost and customer cost of ownership.
  • Creates & implements work instructions & processes for production-related operations.
  • Implementation of Standard Work: time studies, task balancing, one-piece-flow, & waste elimination.
  • Designs, plans, and orchestrates physical cell/line layouts to improve safety, workflow, space utilization, process optimization, workforce efficiency & effectiveness.
  • Assist in the preparation/creation of operator and maintenance manuals for end users of product.
  • Works closely with Design Engineering in the New Product Implementation (NPI), and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Leads in the investigation & implementation of capital equipment related to production processes and needs.
  • Prepare cost estimates for proposed process design and implementation measures.
  • Assists in the technical support of customers: phone calls and/or on-site support.
  • May perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related hands-on field experience. Focused experience in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering is highly desired.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering
  • CAD experience, with exposure/certification to programs such as Solid Works
  • Computer skills to utilize various databases, spreadsheets, word processing and time management programs.
  • An understanding of TQM concepts and QMS standards.
  • Experience with ERP systems: entry & system maintenance.
  • Experience in driving/leading LEAN/Six Sigma activities.
  • Ability to work independently and within team environment.
  • Ability to use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and peers; both written and verbally
  • Preferred: A mechanical design aptitude. Direct experience working with motors, wheels, bearings, levers, electrical circuits, fabrication, and machine assembly.
  • Preferred: Working technical knowledge within the aerial work platform and/or hydraulic lift industry.
  • Preferred: Experience in driving/leading LEAN/Six Sigma activities.

Working Conditions

  • This position usually works regular business hours but may be required to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
  • Works in an office and factories settings, may have to travel between sites locally. Job site and remote field work may be required as needed.
  • May work around heavy machinery, noisy, and/or dirty conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, reach, lift, sit, in hot, cold, dusty, elevated, noisy area where foot and automated equipment movement, airborne, dust/fumes, and ultraviolet light are present.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
