AWCT's Chicago Ford location is hiring several Assistant Yard Supervisors. This will be a night shift position - 5:30pm-5:30am.

- Week 1 - 4 days working 12 hours = 48 hours. 3 days scheduled off.
- Week 2 - 3 days working 12 hours = 36 hours. 4 days scheduled off.
The general pay range for this position is $25.48 per hour. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market considerations.

Summary
The Assistant Yard Supervisor interfaces with all AWCT associates and management personnel, customer representatives, trucking company representatives, and AWCT office staff. The overall objective of this position is to maintain a safe, efficient, and even flow of traffic in the yard. This position interacts with all associates, all AWCT management, customers and representatives of rail and trucking companies to ensure the smooth flow of vehicle traffic in the yard and to assist the Yard Supervisor in areas deemed necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Transport New Vehicle Transporters and Transfer Crew associates between bay locations, inbound receiving areas, and load staging areas as required.
- Assign work and coordinate daily activities for New Vehicle Transporters, Transfer Crew, and temporary workers to meet customer and operational priorities.
- Ensure customer vehicles are pulled, staged, and released in the correct order based on customer instructions and AWCT operational needs.
- Accurately complete and maintain all required receiving, storage, and release documentation, including the daily movement worksheet; submit completed documentation to the Yard Supervisor at the end of each shift.
- Observe associates during daily tasks and provide instruction, guidance, and feedback regarding work practices, safety, and performance; assist with training new or temporary workers as needed.
- Recommend disciplinary action and staffing adjustments to management and collaborate with Yard Supervisors and management on staffing assignments and resource planning.
- Utilize radio and other communication tools to coordinate movements and communicate professionally with management personnel and operational staff.
- Inspect vans for safe operation and maintenance needs; report issues and request repairs through the Yard Supervisor.
- Ensure customer vehicles are properly fueled and contain all required documentation prior to movement or release.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid State Driver's License with the ability to meet AWCT MVR minimum standards; ability to pass the Safe Driving quiz (80% or better).
- Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles safely in yard environments and extreme weather conditions.
- Demonstrated understanding of yard layout, vehicle flow, and the ability to navigate and direct others effectively within the yard.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English sufficiently to use proprietary software systems, interpret VINs and vehicle colors, and give or follow instructions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to instruct others and provide direction or feedback in a diplomatic and professional manner.
- Excellent visual ability and situational awareness, with sufficient balance and coordination to safely perform job duties.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of documents, information, and conversations encountered during the performance of job duties.
- Demonstrated professional conduct, including a positive demeanor, ethical behavior, and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Minimum one to two years of passenger or vehicle transport experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain e‑RailSafe clearance, as required.
- Demonstrated adaptability, reliability, and good attendance, with the ability to work effectively in a variety of operational situations.
