Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

Aware, a global leader in biometrics software products, solutions, and services, seeks a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Technology Team in our Burlington, MA office. The Senior QA Engineer will help ensure the quality and reliability of our commercial software across backend services, APIs, integrations, and web applications. The role will focus primarily on building and maintaining automated test coverage for backend and end-to-end workflows, supplemented by manual testing when appropriate. The Senior QA Engineer will collaborate closely with software developers and other stakeholders to develop test strategies, investigate defects, and assess release readiness. This position requires a self-motivated, adaptable team member who can manage priorities across multiple projects.

Essential Job Functions

• Develop, maintain, and execute automated tests for backend services, APIs, integrations, and web applications.
• Create test strategies, test plans, and test cases for new products, enhancements, change requests, and customer projects.
• Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing across supported environments.
• Integrate automated tests into delivery processes, analyze test failures, and communicate results.
• Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate with developers to investigate root causes and verify fixes.
• Evaluate test coverage, product risk, and release readiness, clearly communicating findings to project stakeholders.
• Configure and maintain test environments, test data, software, and applicable hardware.
• Work with Product Management, Sales, and Customer Support to understand requirements, investigate customer-reported issues, and support successful customer outcomes.
• Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team while managing priorities across multiple projects.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5 years of professional software quality assurance experience, including substantial experience with test automation.
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites for commercial software.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language used for test automation.
• Hands-on experience testing backend services and APIs, particularly REST and JSON APIs.
• Experience testing web applications, including cross-browser testing.
• Experience with functional, integration, regression, and system-level testing.
• Strong understanding of software development and quality practices throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Experience working with Windows and Linux environments, including test-environment setup and troubleshooting.
• Ability to independently lead testing efforts, evaluate risk, prioritize work across multiple projects, and communicate release-quality findings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative working style.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000; dependent upon candidate experience.
