What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Operations position at Aware Healthcare?
TL;DR: Fast-growing mental health tech startup seeking a scrappy operations generalist with prior experience joining an early-stage (pre Series B) venture-backed startup and directing operations at a 50 employee company. In this role you’ll serve as 2nd in command and work side-by-side with the CEO and CCO to direct internal & external operations. Together, we'll reinvent therapy and change the mental health of millions. Details below!
About Us:
Aware Healthcare is reinventing therapy. We’re a venture-backed, multi-state virtual therapy and psychiatry network, taking a novel data-driven approach to patient care. We provide timely access to individualized, measurement-based, and efficient behavioral healthcare, powered by the latest breakthroughs in data science and technology. Unlike other provider organizations, Aware goes beyond the traditional member-reported outcome instruments (e.g., GAD-7 and PHQ-9) by having a data platform that acts as a 24/7 “Thermometer for the Mind”. Our platform enables providers to continuously receive measures of behavior (e.g. social behavior, physical activity, cognitive functioning) from patients’ personal digital devices (e.g. smartphones, wearables), without any work required by the patient. During sessions, these measures are then displayed as ‘biomarkers’ on a streaming dashboard that enables providers to identify changes in patient functioning, deliver more targeted and efficient treatment, and ultimately reduce the need for higher levels of care. To date we've raised $1.5mm from over a dozen top institutional and angel investors, landed contracts with 6 of the top 7 insurance payers in the country, and recruited 250 providers across 10 states. We'll be launching in Q1 2022 as we close a large new round of funding. You can learn more about Aware here: https://www.awarehc.com/

About the Role:
- Title: Director of Operations
- Location: San Francisco or San Diego (in-person only, at 1 of our 2 offices)
- Type: Full-Time
We’re looking for a scrappy operations generalist to help reinvent therapy.
In this role you’ll work side-by-side with our CEO and CCO to direct all internal (team-facing) and external (customer-facing) company operations. This will involve:
- working with our CCO to oversee the delivery of clinical care across our national network of mental health care providers
- working with our CEO to manage and empower our growing team with the direction and resources they need to thrive
This role will function as 2nd in command at the company. This means that day-to-day — while the CEO is focused on fundraising, hiring, sales, and product — you’ll be in charge of making sure the “trains always run on time”. No day will be the same, as everyday you’ll be tasked with quickly and creatively solving a new problem, with a bias toward efficiency and and first-principles thinking.
At Aware Healthcare we obsess over quality of care for our patients, and - as a result - our culture revolves around an intense attention-to-detail never seen before in mental health care. While historically our industry has been content with variable quality from provider-to-provider and session-to-session, at Aware we run our company with a level of speed and precision akin to an advanced military operation, and promise a consistent five-star experience for all patients at every session. The right Director of Operations will be energized by this culture of excellence, and love the idea of consistently setting a higher quality bar by crossing every “t” and dotting every “i”.
This role is *NOT* for you if:
- You prefer big-picture strategy to hands-on execution.
- You’re more of a slow methodical thinker than a rapid-fire executor.
- You like studying the forest more than fighting through the trees.
- You’re more of an executive manager than a scrappy hustler.
- You’re satisfied with ‘good enough’ more often than you strive for perfection.
This will be a senior role within the company and a career-defining role for the right person.
