TITLE: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
FTE: 1.0
LOCATION: DISTRICT-WIDE

Qualifications: The individual selected for this assignment will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements:

Current Michigan Certification with appropriate endorsement for teacher of speechand language.
2. Knowledge of the techniques of modification and accommodations as they relate to individual child development.
3. Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP)
4. Must have a working knowledge of special education law
5. Knowledge of and/or experience working with students with a variety of disabilities including ASD, SLD, EI, CI, VI, HI, PI, OHI, SLI, and ADHD.
6. The ability to meet physical demands, including but not limited to: run, kneel, sit on the floor and rise from the floor, and the ability to lift 40 pounds.
7. Should have a high energy level and the ability to respond quickly to a variety of situations
8. Flexibility and willingness to attend training
9. Excellent communication skills
10. A conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories and teaching methodologies, special education service delivery models, state and federal rules related to special

Reports to: Speech/Language Pathologist is supervised by the AssistantSuperintendent for Student Services

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

*Participate in the development and promotion of the special education philosophy of service and delivery.

*Collect accurate on-going data on student performance.

*Demonstrate good interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff members/students/parents and the community.

* Collaborates with agencies, school district personnel and families for the purpose of transition planning and necessary placement.

* Demonstrate responsiveness to each family’s culture, preferences, resources and priorities.

* Work as part of a team with the OT, PT, SW and Psych

*Development and maintenance of special education records; write timely reports when needed.

*Communicate with parents regarding student progress.

*Profiency in facilitating, writing and implementing IFSP's.

*Develop IFSP’s that are in compliance.

*Remain in compliance with all State and Federal rules and regulations that govern Special Education.

*Maintain confidentiality of school-related information.

*Participate in and utilize information gained in appropriate staff development.

*Demonstrates understanding of students’ needs, and interacts appropriately with students, parents, and staff.

*Demonstrates initiative and creativity with individual children and their program implementations.

*Maintains composure under stressful conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and kneel on hard surfaces and is occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently will reach above the head and forward. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp equipment or students. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds such as students or students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in hot temperatures and extreme temperatures below ten degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery/uneven surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and others. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The employee is often exposed to fumes and airborne particles and frequently must work in outside weather. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.

Pay: $40,054.34 - $58,379.98 per year
