What are the responsibilities and job description for the PMU Instructor position at AVL Image Academy?
AVL Academy is seeking a skilled and professional PMU Instructor to teach our Permanent Makeup techniques program, including hands-on training and theory. This role is ideal for a licensed beauty professional who is passionate about education, safety, and helping students develop strong technical foundations.
You will teach small groups in a supportive, professional learning environment, focusing on proper technique, sanitation, and best practices in PMU.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Training
- Teach Permanent Makeup techniques, including:
- Microblading
- Ombre / Powder Brows
- Lip Blush
- PMU theory and skin anatomy basics
- Demonstrate proper tool handling, pigmentation techniques, and safety procedures.
- Guide students through hands-on practice (mannequins and/or live models as applicable).
- Ensure all training follows California sanitation and safety guidelines.
Student Support
- Provide clear explanations, demonstrations, and feedback.
- Monitor student progress and skill development.
- Maintain a positive, professional classroom environment.
- Answer student questions and provide technical guidance.
Classroom & Compliance
- Track attendance and basic student progress (training provided).
- Follow AVL Academy curriculum and teaching standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the classroom.
- Represent AVL Academy professionally at all times.
Requirements
- Valid California Cosmetology or Esthetician License (REQUIRED).
- Professional experience in Permanent Makeup techniques.
- Strong knowledge of sanitation, infection control, and safety practices.
- Teaching experience preferred, but not required (training provided).
- Strong communication skills.
- Bilingual English & Spanish (REQUIRED).
- Reliable, professional, and punctual.
Schedule
- Classes are held once per week per group.
- Instructors may teach multiple classes per week, depending on instructor availability and student enrollment.
- Minimum of 4 hours per session.
- Flexible scheduling with weekday and/or weekend options.
- Opportunity to increase weekly hours as new groups open.
Compensation
- $40 per hour.
