POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant II will perform certain clinical duties which may include taking and recording vital signs, administering medications, and direct care duties as needed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The MAII is a position that requires a National Certification through one of the following certifying agencies; American Allied Health Association, National Center for Competency, or the National Health Career Association.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Room patients which includes obtaining vital signs, verifying medications (medication reconciliation), medical history, and obtaining other pertinent information.
- Assist physicians and nurses as needed.
- Perform EKG’s.
- Perform peak flows/spirometry.
- Administer O2 as directed by provider.
- Administer respiratory treatments as directed by provider.
- Perform in-office labs and UDS.
- Perform prescription refills.
- Enter orders for medication and labs as directed by provider.
- Scrub charts/huddle with provider and team daily.
- Perform normal lab call backs.
- Blood draws, if competency has been signed off.
- Injections and immunization administration.
- Assist with procedures.
- Non-complicated wound care.
- Suture/staple removal AFTER seen by provider.
- Stock and clean rooms.
- Autoclave (sterilizing and maintenance).
- Schedule patients for follow-up per provider.
- Assist with the training of other staff within MA scope of practice.
- Assist team with desktop items.
- Answer telephone calls.
- Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures).
- Additional duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2-years’ experience in Hospital or Clinical setting.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
- Current BLS certification (maintaining current certification is required for continued employment Aviva Health).
- Ability to work independently, detail oriented, organized, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent computer and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of office procedures, patient flow, triage and scheduling.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and writing clearly and concisely. Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions and deliver upon expectations.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
