Job Description
This position will provide accounting services for Avista’s non-regulated subsidiary companies. Responsibilities will include accounting for investments, modeling of initial investments, analytical review of investments, monitoring third-party activity, and providing valuations for financial reporting. Additional responsibilities include customer billing, cash receipts and disbursements processing, month-end closing, preparation of internal financial statements, quarterly subsidiary consolidation, updating monthly budgets / reports, and special projects as they arise. Opportunities to assist in tax compliance and accrual functions by analyzing and preparing various federal, state, and local tax returns, accounting for property, plant and equipment ensuring compliance with corporate accounting policies and procedures, monthly account reconciliations and other analysis as requested by Management.
This position will also provide supporting documentation for financial reporting and internal controls. This position will have regular communication with Avista’s senior leadership and team members regarding subsidiary results, budgeting, changes in procedures, accounting issues and policies.
- Ensure information is available on a timely basis, by preparing accurate analysis, reports, and schedules as defined and directed within established time frames.
- Maintain adequate control over assigned responsibilities by developing an understanding of the process; and keeping management informed of problems or unusual activities or events.

Support management decision making by compiling and formatting reports and schedules and responding to inquiries to provide recommendations to management.
- Assures assigned responsibilities are reported properly by thoroughly understanding all aspects of the process; timely identification and resolution of issues; and keeping management informed of changes.
- Support company compliance by staying abreast of current developments impacting assigned responsibilities; research regulations or changing requirements and apply to the company’s circumstances; assuring the integrity, accuracy and reliability of information provided by the group.
- A bachelor’s degree in one of the business related disciplines listed above and 2 to 5 years of experience.
- Broad knowledge of theory and general practices of subject area.
- Demonstrated strong understanding of the discipline and good understanding of the company’s business processes and operations.
Strong analytical skills and an understanding of Word, Excel, Oracle are preferred.
Qualified candidates must also demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
