What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ontologist position at Avineon?
Avineon is seeking an Ontologist to add to our team. The Ontologist will design, develop, and maintain ontological frameworks and knowledge graphs aligned with current standards and best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Find and organize datasets, particularly geospatial/spatiotemporal datasets to help data scientists answer questions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify, classify, and map data elements to ontology concepts.
- Build ETL pipelines to ingest datasets in an immediately usable way.
- Take feedback from users and product managers to improve the usability of data.
- Collaborate with the data science and software teams on tough client questions.
- Work within a team or as an individual contributor as needed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience (two to four years) as an Ontologist, Data Scientist, Data Engineer, or Software Developer working with data analytics, data science, or machine learning.
- Experience with Python and common data science libraries and frameworks.
- Experience working with ontologies and knowledge graphs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated excellence working effectively within a team environment.
- Experience working with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and ISO standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working within the U.S. Department of Defense and intelligence community.
- Knowledge of and experience working with standards set by the Geospatial-Intelligence (GEOINT) Standards Working Group (GWG)
- Experience working with DoDAF Formal Ontology (DM2).
- Experience working within MARS framework.
- Experience working with NATO Interoperability Standards and Profiles (NISP)
- Experience programming with Go.
- Experience working with geospatial data using GDAL or geospatial data standards.
- Experience with Semantic Web concepts such as RDF, OWL, or SPARQL.
- Experience with web scraping and web APIs.
- Interest in distributed and decentralized systems.
- Experience with pipeline systems such as Pachyderm, Apache Airflow, or similar.
Security Clearance Requirement:
- Must hold an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
Work Location:
- Washington, DC area is preferred, but open to other locations.
