Safety Supervisor
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the company’s health and safety policies, procedures, and programs across all construction and field operations. This role ensures that AvidWater remains compliant with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, Hazmat, and other applicable regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture that protects our team members, clients, and the environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the implementation of company-wide safety policies, manuals, and training programs.
- Oversee development and maintenance of the company’s Hazard Communication Program (HAZCOM) and Emergency Response Plans.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments at operations and retail facilities and active job sites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, Hazmat safety regulations, and Emergency Response Plans. Maintain all required documentation and reports.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Coordinate and deliver monthly safety meetings, safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training for all employees and subcontractors. Trainings would include Fall Protection, Trenching/Excavation, Lockout/Tagout, Defensive Driving, First Aid, etc.
- Manage Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and manage hazardous materials protocols.
- Track and report safety metrics (TRIR, near-misses, corrective actions) to leadership on a regular basis.
- Responsible for OSHA 300 logs and OSHA 301 injury and illness incident reporting.
- Collaborate with retail managers, construction managers, superintendents, and crews to identify site and job specific safety needs.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and insurance providers regarding safety compliance.
- Champion a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in safety practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Three (3) years of safety management experience in the construction or agricultural sector is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA standards and compliance practices.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written) is required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites throughout California is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and incident tracking software.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA regulations and fleet safety programs is preferred.
- Experience working with subcontractors and enforcing safety standards on multi-vendor sites is preferred.
